I used to buy the cans for at home, but stopped awhile back -- very high in cholesterol.

We get them in two sizes, the regular large 15 1/2 Oz cans, and the smaller 7 Oz cans. The brand name is Hanover. You can also get them in dry form, but they have to be soaked for a long time first. In the Caribbean, we call Chick Peas, Channa. We would cook them in curry, or roast them. They are very tasty either way. I must search for the curry channa(chick pea) recipe and post it here.
They are called Garbanzo beans in spanish speaking countries also.

HH's recipe calls for the 15-1/2 oz cans That's the only size I've seen in our area.

Actually... the opposite is true:

Garbanzos (also called chickpeas) are a good source of cholesterol-lowering fiber, as are most other beans. In addition to lowering cholesterol, garbanzos' high fiber content prevents blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after a meal, making these beans an especially good choice for individuals with diabetes, insulin resistance or hypoglycemia. When combined with whole grains such as rice, garbanzos provide virtually fat-free high quality protein.

Jill, Publix down here in S. Florida carries the smaller tins. I thought they would carry them in C. Florida also.

I make hummus with tahini as well as the chick peas -- can you get tahini over there? It's a paste made of ground sesame seed -- popular in Lebanese and Middle Eastern cooking. Might post a recipe from one of my Aussie books for you ...
