Default Martinis. Stirred, shaken or on the rocks.

Last night I had a Bombay Martini up, dry with an olive. It was lovely. I had forgotten just how delicious a real martini is.

Haven't had any of the new drinks they are calling martinis, although they sound good.

Does anyone know why they are considered martinis???
I tended bar for many years, but not the last 12. When did the designer and flavored martinis evolve?? Enquiring minds want to know, lol.

I'm not sure but the Cosmopolitan became a fave of the "in" crowds in NY & Hollywood at some point & it escalated from there I believe with all the flavors. I am not a huge martini fan but enjoy them on a cruise now & then!

I did a little online research and came away not really feeling I had found an answer but it was interesting reading. Yes, Bombay is a great gin. Very expensive here. Sadly so is vermouth. I know it doesn`t take much in a martini, but wow, it`s very pricey here in Mexico. There is a bar here makes a tequila martini. Tried one once. I guess it`s one of those aquired taste things.................I didn`t order another. I do love gimlets with a good gin. Roses Lime is three times the price here. sigh.........

Did the Cosmopolitan start on the tv show Sex in the City...just curious...

I like the sweet concoctions...although I had a great Martini on a cruise last month...Gin, Cointreau and lemon rubbed on the inside of the glass and on the rim...strong, but yummy!!
